About Judy McGovern
Judy McGovern began her journalism career in New York State and led newsrooms in central and eastern Ohio before coming to Michigan and settling in Ann Arbor. She was opinion page editor of the former Ann Arbor News, and later served as managing editor for features, and a columnist at the paper. She began advising student journalists in 2015, after a stint in philanthropy.
At WCC, Washtenaw Voice students produce a print edition every other week in addition to digital news. In recent years, Voice students’ work has been recognized with College Media Association, Associated Collegiate Press as well as numerous Michigan Community College Press Association and other awards.
McGovern has also been served on the staff of the Detroit News, Crain's Detroit Business and freelanced for the Ann Arbor Observer, Michigan History magazine and the former Ann Arbor Chronicle.
Before coming to Ann Arbor, she was managing editor of the Steubenville (Ohio) Herald-Star and Weirton (W.Va.) Daily Times. Prior to that she was managing editor of the Coshocton (Ohio) Tribune, and held several positions at her hometown paper, the Olean (N.Y.) Times Herald.
McGovern is a graduate of St. Lawrence University, Canton, N.Y. She did graduate work at Fairfield University n Fairfield, Conn.
She has also been a student in WCC's Web Design and Development program.
