This program prepares students to meet all the requirements to apply for the national Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, the most widely recognized credential in early childhood education. The CDA is a key stepping stone on the path of career advancement. This program emphasizes skills from the 13 functional areas required by the National Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition. hours. The CDA is recognized by the State of Michigan Child Care Licensing as a qualification needed for a lead teacher in a child care center or family child care home. This certificate can be earned with 10 credits and is the first step in achieving an associate degree.

T.E.A.C.H. scholarships covering tuition and the CDA assessment are available for qualified students. For more info: miaeyc.org.

2024-2025 Academic Requirements

This program prepares students to meet all the requirements to apply for the national Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. It also prepares students for employment in child care centers or in family home daycare settings working with infants and toddlers, or preschoolers. Skills from the 13 functional areas required by the National Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition are emphasized.

This is a high demand program, as defined by the Michigan Community College Network.

Students must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
