Coming to Spain has been eye opening and created a whole shift in how I spent my days during my stay here. Here they approach time completely different than in America. They value relaxation time and most shops close for siesta, which is a break typically from 3pm to 5pm where they can go home and enjoy lunch. People in Spain seem a lot happier because they are less stressed about time. They are not worried about being on time and do not rush their lives. They seem much healthier for that reason. Less on their mind and their plate, they can play things more by ear instead of planning every aspect of their life. They allow themselves to stop and smell the roses. Their existence does not revolve around making money and how “productive” they are. For someone like me who enjoys not having to follow a super specific schedule, my time in Spain has been a breath of fresh air. I am constantly stressed about deadlines and being on time, when I’d much rather enjoy my time no matter the context. My time here in Spain, especially Menorca has taught me how to slow down and reminded me to stop and smell the flowers. Life should be enjoyed, not rushed through.
