Warming Up Our Winter

Winter is bad enough, why make it worse.  There’s a phenomenon that psychologists have noted called the “involuntary polar euphoria:” when everyone is in the same boat, we’re all here together, we all are as cold as anybody else, and . . . sudden happiness occurs. Because we all share the same misery.

--Garrison Keillor

Unfortunately, I haven’t experienced that “involuntary polar euphoria” Keilor claims Minnesotans feel as a side effect of super cold winter, but I do know that I’ve been looking for ways to brighten up the days as we move through the last month(s?) of winter.

So, in the spirit of brightening up days (or creating a feeling of “polar euphoria”!) the Faculty Professional Development Committee encourages you to give valentines to your colleagues.

Teaching valentines.

Valentines that let us share our appreciation for the amazing teaching talents that surround us. Valentines that we can proudly display on our office doors and walls, brightening up our February, and reminding of us of why we’re here.

Print and share as many as you like!

Happy Valentines Day! (And the accompanying effects of “polar euphoria”!)
