Washtenaw Community College’s (WCC) 2025 Commencement Ceremony will be Saturday, May 17, at Eastern Michigan University’s George Gervin GameAbove Center (formerly the EMU Convocation Center).
The ceremony is open to the public and will begin at 9:20 a.m. It will also be livestreamed at wccnet.edu/graduation.
This year’s candidates for awards include approximately 3,000 associate degrees and certificates, with 2,200 unique graduates. WCC President Dr. Rose B. Bellanca will present awards to attending graduates.
Bryan Wilson, who is receiving an associate degree in nursing, will address fellow graduates as the student speaker. Tom Zimmerman, who has been teaching English and Composition at WCC for more than 30 years, will be faculty speaker.
Each year, WCC honors an individual for extraordinary contributions to the advancement of Washtenaw Community College and its mission. This year Tom Butman will receive an Honorary Associate Degree in Community Service.
Butman is the general manager of his family business – Gene Butman Ford in Ypsilanti – and has served as an industry advisory board member at WCC for the past 12 years.
Butman earned a bachelor’s degree in Automotive Marketing & Management from Northwood University in 2009 before enrolling in WCC’s Automotive Services Technician program to gain a deeper understanding of every aspect of his family’s business.
Currently, Butman Ford employs 10 WCC graduates in a variety of full-time roles – from service to sales to human resources. He also offers apprenticeships and part-time work for current WCC students.
