Washtenaw Community College invites the community to honor the courage and sacrifice of America's military veterans during its annual Veterans Day observance on Wednesday, November 11.
The 2026 Veterans Day events begin with an 8 a.m. flag-raising ceremony led by U.S. Marine Corps recruiters at the main entrance to campus in front of the Student Center, 4800 E. Huron River Drive. (See campus map/directions.)
An indoor ceremony and reception, featuring remarks from student veterans and a keynote address from a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs representative, will follow from 9:45-11 a.m. on the second floor of the Student Center.
WCC’s observance reflects the college’s ongoing commitment to its more than 500 military-connected students and families, including veterans, active-duty personnel, National Guard and Reserve members and their spouses and dependents.
Keynote speaker Dr. Jonathan Cugini of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) program will address how the program supports veterans as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives.
The colors will be presented by the United States Marine Corps recruiters, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Commander Scott Nichols of the American Legion.
Frank Rodriguez, WCC’s chief human resource officer and veteran of the Marine Corps and Army National Guard, will serve as master of ceremonies. Additional speakers include student veterans and WCC President Dr. Rose B. Bellanca. Light refreshments will be served.
The ceremony will occur near the Wadhams Veterans Center, which serves as a hub of support and community for WCC veterans and family members.
WCC has been recognized as a Gold-level Veteran-Friendly School by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency for the eighth consecutive year.
