How Applications Are Reviewed
After you submit your application, it will go through prescreening followed by application review. Review timelines and admission decisions vary depending on whether you applied to a Competitive Admission or Limited Enrollment program.
All submitted applications are prescreened for required application documents before moving forward to application review.
Applications are prescreened in the order they are submitted. Please allow the following amount of time for prescreening and to receive an email with your prescreening status:
- Competitive Admission Programs: Up to 2 months
- Limited Enrollment Programs: Up to 2 weeks
After prescreening, you will receive one of the following email notifications:
- Successful: You will receive confirmation that we have the required documentation needed to move forward with reviewing your application.
- Missing Documents: You will be notified of any required documentation that is missing. Your application cannot move forward to application review until the missing documentation is submitted.
Important: Any required documents not uploaded with your application or submitted in advance must be received by the Health & 2nd Tier Admissions Office at [email protected] by your program’s application deadline.
Submit all required documents correctly and on time to avoid delays in reviewing your application.
Once all required application documents have been received, your application will move forward to application review. During this stage, the Health & 2nd Tier Admissions Office verifies whether you have met all admission requirements for the program.
Review timelines and outcomes vary depending on whether you applied to a Competitive Admission or Limited Enrollment program.
Competitive Admission Programs
Please allow up to 3 months for your application to be fully reviewed. You will receive an email with the outcome of your application review.
Possible application review outcomes:
- Successful (All Requirements Verified): You will receive an email confirming that you have met all admission requirements. Your application will be included alongside the other qualified applicants being considered for a seat in the program.
- Incomplete Requirements: If we are unable to verify that you have completed all admission requirements, you may be given a final opportunity to submit additional documentation or complete an outstanding requirement. Your email will include a deadline for completing the required action. If the requirement cannot be verified by the stated deadline, your application will be closed, and you will be notified by email.
- Requirements Not Met: If we verify that you do not meet the minimum admission requirements, your application will be closed, and you will be notified by email. You will not be considered for admission during that application cycle.
Limited Enrollment Programs
Please allow up to 3 weeks for your application to be fully reviewed.
Possible application review outcomes:
- Successful (All Requirements Verified): Your application will move forward for an admission decision based on seat availability. You will not receive a separate email confirming successful completion of the application review.
- Incomplete Requirements: If we are unable to verify that you have completed all admission requirements, you will be given an opportunity to submit additional documentation or complete an outstanding requirement. All requirements must be verified by the application deadline. If all requirements cannot be verified by the application deadline, your application will be closed as incomplete, and you will be notified by email. You will not be considered for admission during that application cycle.
See Admissions Decisions below for information about how admission status and available seats are determined.
Admission Decisions
The admission decision process varies depending on whether you applied to a Competitive Admission or Limited Enrollment program. You will be notified of your admission decision by email.
Admission decisions are released after all applications have been reviewed for the admission cycle and no later than the timeframe listed in the Program Application Windows and Admission Decisions Timeline chart.
Applicants are selected based on the program’s point system ranking and established tie-breakers. Alternate Candidates are selected by continuing through the same ranking and tie-breaker process.
Alternate Candidates who are not ultimately accepted will earn alternate points for future admission cycles.
Admission decisions are made as applicants qualify and no later than one week after the final application deadline.
Applicants are selected using a first-qualified process. Applicants who meet all admission requirements are considered for available program seats in the order they qualify until all seats are filled or the final application deadline is reached.
Understanding Your Admission Decision
Your admission decision email will identify your status as Accepted, Alternate Candidate, or Not Selected.
You have been selected for a seat in the program.
To maintain your Accepted status, you must complete all required Entrance Requirements by the specified deadlines. Program-specific requirements and deadlines will be identified in the Program Entrance Requirements document included with your admission decision email. Additional requirements and instructions may also be provided directly by your program department.
See If You Are Accepted or Given Alternate Candidate Status below for information about confirming your status, completing Entrance Requirements, and other required next steps.
You have not been offered a seat at this time but may be offered one if an accepted student is unable to begin the program or becomes ineligible and you are next to be considered.
Your Alternate Candidate status will remain active for the admission cycle until the program begins or until the program-specific deadline, if applicable. Any program-specific deadline will be identified in the Program Entrance Requirements document included with your admission decision email.
You should be prepared to begin the program if a seat becomes available. If you remain in good standing and complete all required Entrance Requirements, you may be offered admission before the applicable deadline. If your status changes to Accepted, you will be notified by email and may have additional requirements to complete to maintain your newly accepted status.
If you are not offered a seat by the applicable deadline, your application will be closed and no further communication will be sent for that admission cycle.
See If You Are Accepted or Given Alternate Candidate Status below for information about confirming and maintaining your status, completing Entrance Requirements, and other required next steps.
Due to the limited number of available program seats, not all qualified applicants will receive Accepted or Alternate Candidate status.
If you are Not Selected:
- Your application will remain on file until the program begins.
- You may still be offered admission if all Alternate Candidates are exhausted; however, this is very uncommon.
- If you are not offered a seat before the program begins, your application will be closed, and no further communication will be sent for that admission cycle.
- If you plan to reapply or would like to explore other health care career paths, contact Academic Advising for guidance.
If You Are Accepted or Given Alternate Candidate Status
If you receive an admission decision of Accepted or Alternate Candidate status, there are additional steps you must complete to confirm and maintain your status.
Confirm Your Status
You must complete and submit the Seat Confirmation Form using the link provided in your admission decision email.
You must confirm or decline your status by the deadline stated in the email.
If you do not respond by the deadline, your status will be changed to declined and forfeited. You will no longer be eligible to begin the program or, if you are an Alternate Candidate, receive a seat if one becomes available.
Complete Your Entrance Requirements
You will receive Program Entrance Requirements explaining what you must complete to maintain your Accepted or Alternate Candidate status.
You are responsible for completing all requirements by the stated deadlines. Failure to complete required items may result in ineligibility to begin the program and therefore your status will be forfeited.
Alternate Candidates: You must complete the required Entrance Requirements and be prepared to begin the program to be eligible to move to accepted status if a seat becomes available
Program of Study
If you are accepted into the program, your Program of Study will be changed to your admitted program in your student record.
Exception for Middle College students: Currently enrolled Middle College students will have their Program of Study changed to Health Science-Non Degree (HLT) because high school students cannot be enrolled in a degree-seeking program while still in high school. After high school graduation, you must submit a program change request through your MyWCC account to be placed into your admitted degree program.
It is important to verify that your Program of Study is correct, especially if you receive financial aid. Contact the Financial Aid Office with questions about your financial aid status.
Note: If your application is closed or you do not continue in the program for any reason, your Program of Study will be changed back to your previous major on record.
Starting the Program
Your eligibility to begin the program is conditional upon successfully completing all Entrance Requirements by the specified deadlines. Failure to complete all Entrance Requirements may affect your admission status or your ability to begin or continue in the program.
You must begin the program in the semester for which you are accepted. See Program Deferments for Special Circumstances below for information about circumstances that may qualify for a deferment.

Additional Program Policies
- Program applications are valid only for the semester in which you apply.
- If you do not receive a seat, your application is closed, or you choose not to continue, you must submit a new program application for a future semester.
- When reapplying, you must meet all admission requirements and Entrance Requirements (if applicable) for the semester for which you are reapplying, even if you met the requirements during a previous application cycle.
- Refer to the Program Application Windows and Admissions Decision Timelines chart for upcoming dates.
Withdrawing Your Application
If you decide not to continue after applying, email [email protected] from your WCC student email and request that your application be closed.
If you receive Accepted or Alternate Candidate status, you may also decline your status by submitting the applicable Seat Confirmation Form provided with your admission decision email.
Accepted Students
Depending on your program, there may be a specific deadline to withdraw from the program. If applicable, you must notify the Health & 2nd Tier Admissions Office and drop any first-semester program courses by the stated deadline. Program-specific withdrawal information will be included in the Program Entrance Requirements provided with your admission decision email.
Some programs consider you officially enrolled in the program beginning on the first day of the semester. If this applies to your program, on or after that date you must contact and receive prior approval from the Program Director before:
- Dropping or withdrawing from any program discipline courses
- Changing your approved academic plan
- Taking a break in program progression
Failure to receive prior approval for changes to your academic plan may result in dismissal from the program and may make you ineligible to reapply or be considered for re-entry.
Deferments are granted only for specific accommodations or documented extenuating circumstances that are unforeseen, serious, and unavoidable and prevent an accepted student from starting the program in the semester for which they were accepted.
Examples of situations that typically qualify:
- Medical emergencies
- Military deployment
- Pregnancy-related accommodations
Note: Deferments are not available to students with Alternate Candidate status or students who have already started the program.
Examples of situations that typically do not qualify:
- Travel or vacation plans
- Work or scheduling conflicts
- Feeling unprepared or not ready to start
- Financial difficulties
- Desire to take a break or gap semester
- Failure to meet program deadlines
- Academic unreadiness or ineligibility
How to Request a Deferment
To request a deferment, complete and submit the Deferment Request Form and supporting documentation to [email protected].
Pregnancy-Related Accommodations
Pregnant students must also:
- Visit Pregnant Student Rights to officially request accommodation
- Contact the Dean of Students Office with questions or for assistance
If Your Deferment Is Approved
You must meet all Admission Requirements and Entrance Requirements for the semester in which you will start the program, even if you completed those requirements during a previous semester or admission cycle.
Failure to meet all applicable requirements will make you ineligible to start the program, and your application will be closed.
