Mind Your Mental Health

Have you ever been curious about what mood trackers are and how they can benefit you?  Mood trackers are not new to the mental health profession. For many years, mental health therapists have encouraged clients to begin tracking their moods to help both parties notice any patterns. In short, mood trackers are a tool to document how you are feeling during set intervals throughout the day.

Some people keep journals and track their moods using paper and pencil and others set up elaborate Excel spreadsheets with set times for when they document their moods. As technology has evolved, mood tracking has become more convenient and increasingly sophisticated.

Current mood trackers are often apps you can download on your phone. They are helpful in reminding you to check-in periodically to notate your mood. Many also help you document other factors that could be impacting your mood at a given time. For example, perhaps you mark that your mood is down while you are in a particular environment or with a particular person. Over time you can review your moods and then make more informed decisions on how you can better manage any negative emotions and moods based on a given situation.

By tracking your mood, you can begin to see what interventions are working for you and which ones may not be working. There are plenty of mood trackers available to you.  A very nice one that is FREE to all WCC students is called WellTrack. You can download this from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
