WTMC is hiring four full-time positions for fall 2024.

Description and responsibilities: Washtenaw Technical Middle College (WTMC) is a high school located on the campus of Washtenaw Community College. We support student success in college coursework and college completion by providing meaningful educational choices, individualized advising, and skill-based instruction. Applicants for this position should be comfortable moving fluently between the needs of a K-12 learning environment and the expectations of higher education.

Position title: English instructor and academic advisor
FTE: 1.0
Start date: August 19, 2024
Salary range: $55,000 - $85,000

This is a full-time position as English instructor and academic advisor. English teaching duties (75%) include teaching composition and argumentation, sentence-level writing skills, literature and drama, and non-academic soft skills like organization and professional communication. Teachers at WTMC enjoy the freedom to create curriculum, design elective courses, and collaborate with colleagues in a supportive and intellectually challenging environment.

Advising duties (25%) require an applicant who can form supportive relationships with students as they learn to navigate the complex world of college. Advising includes helping students learn to schedule courses and choose a college program, and serving as a point of contact for families. This role requires a high degree of interpersonal intelligence.

Required qualifications: Applicants must have a valid Michigan secondary teaching certificate in English or Language Arts (BA or BX). The ability to work collaboratively, to stay organized, and to use or learn schoolwide digital tools are absolute requirements for this position.

Strong candidates will have a personal or professional history that supports working with diverse cultures and the developmental needs of adolescents. Graduate work in English or experience teaching at the postsecondary level would also be an asset in the teaching role.


Position title: Math instructor and academic advisor

Start date: August 19, 2024
Salary range: $55,000 - $85,000

This is a full-time position as math instructor and academic advisor. Math teaching duties (75%) include teaching algebra, pre-algebra, geometry, and non-academic soft skills like organization and professional communication. Teachers at WTMC enjoy the freedom to create curriculum, align teaching practices with college expectations, and collaborate with colleagues in a supportive and intellectually challenging environment.

Advising duties (25%) require an applicant who can form supportive relationships with students as they learn to navigate the complex world of college. Advising includes helping students learn to schedule courses and choose a college program, and serving as a point of contact for families. This role requires a high degree of interpersonal intelligence.

This is a full-time position as critical thinking instructor and academic advisor. Teaching duties (75%) include teaching non-fiction reading skills, source analysis and media literacy, inferential thinking, and non-academic soft skills like organization and professional communication. Teachers at WTMC enjoy the freedom to create curriculum, design elective courses, and collaborate with colleagues in a supportive and intellectually challenging environment.

Advising duties (25%) require an applicant who can form supportive relationships with students as they learn to navigate the complex world of college. Advising includes helping students learn to schedule courses and choose a college program, and serving as a point of contact for families. This role requires a high degree of interpersonal intelligence.

Position title: School secretary and receptionist
FTE: 1.0
Start date: August 19, 2024
Salary range: $45,000 - $55,000

Description and responsibilities: The WTMC School Secretary will serve as the first point of contact for students, parents, staff, and visitors. They will also provide administrative support to ensure the efficient operation of the school office. This role requires excellent communication skills, careful attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment. Key responsibilities include greeting visitors, answering and making phone calls, supporting student needs, using the school computer systems and programs. This is a full-time position for the weeks when classes are in session.

Required qualifications: Familiarity with standard office software including Google suite and Microsoft Office. Interpersonal or customer service skills sufficient to remain calm and supportive under stress.
