Simulation Lab

The WCC nursing simulation lab provides a hands-on learning experience in a safe, realistic environment that enables health care students to enhance their critical thinking skills, technical ability, and communication skills through collaboration with peers, and other health profession students.

"They have an awesome lab. This is getting real," Gabriela Wilson

This lab allows students to evaluate vital signs, heart/breath sounds, experience cardiopulmonary monitoring and assess the effects of medications given to a patient through interaction with a high fidelity simulator.

The simulation lab is equipped with monitoring devices and infusion delivery systems, which mimic equipment used in a variety of hospital systems. The simulation lab is an educational bridge from classroom learning to clinical patient care.

Simulations are conducted with high care to professionalism and realistic experiences. WCC’s simulation lab is working toward adapting INACSL standards. Coming soon, simulation resources will be expanded for WCC’s nursing students with a new simulation lab as well as an additional skills lab.

Laerdal SimMan 3G

In the Fall of 2017, a Laerdal SimMan 3G was purchased and introduced to WCC’s simulation lab. This technologically advanced patient simulator gives students the opportunity to experience a variety of illnesses and treatment that might not be encountered in traditional clinical. SimMan 3G is controlled by a team of WCC faculty in a separate room within the lab. A computer dashboard is used to control various features of SimMan, such as heart rate and blood pressure.
